PRECIOUS METAL CLAY
PMC is short for Precious Metal Clay. Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is a form of metal clay similar to Art Clay Silver. The product was developed by the Mitsibishi Corporation in Japan in the early 1990's.
It looks like clay but actually consists of microscopic particles of silver combined in an organic binder and, when fired, the binder burns off leaving the pure metal.
With this magical-sounding product, you can:
Shape, flatten and texture it like clay
Set it with cubic zirconias or dicroic glass
Push it into a mould
Paint it onto organic forms such as leaves and fire it causing the leaf to burn off and leaving the texture of the leaf in silver
Make your own moulds from favourite pieces of jewellery or buttons and repeat the designs in silver
Patina it to look like antique silver, brass or gold
PMC can be fired with a butane torch or if it is a larger piece, in a kiln.
Bijou Beads and Design has a fully-equipped PMC studio for hire or we can just fire your pieces for a small fee.
